Hi.

Welcome to A Pocketful of Licorice, my memory-keeping, art-journaling, book-reading, world-traveling blog. I'm Anja. Nice to meet you.

Documenting December

Documenting December

Even though I’ve been scrapbooking for almost twenty years, I’ve never done a December documenting project before. I think I’ve always been convinced that I’d abandon the project halfway through the month and never finish. I’ve got an entire box of half-finished projects and I didn’t want to add to it. But this year, I was inspired by the Good Cheer kit that Jamaica Edgell designed for Kelly Purkey Shop to give it a go. The colors are so bright and bold that I was drawn to it right away, but what really sold me was the starburst stamp included in the stamp set. I knew right away that I wanted to heat emboss it in gold and use it to number the days of the month.

Well, it’s Christmas Eve now, and I haven’t given up yet. What’s really helping me to get this project done is that I built the foundation when the kit first arrived back in October. The days were all dated with the starburst stamp, the patterned paper was trimmed, and everything was inserted into my 3x8 album, with notes on where to include photos. All I need to do now, as the month goes on, is to add my photos and journaling. And it helps that I’m keeping things fairly simple. The good thing about using bold colors and patterns is that you don’t necessarily need to add much else. It’s easy to get away with minimal embellishment. I’m adding stamped phrases and stickers from the kit, but that’s about it.

I’m not always great at showing my feelings, but I’m really trying to focus on the things I’m thankful for this month - the relationships and traditions that mean the most to me.

I’ll share a few more images below, then when the month is over, I’ll probably post a slide show or flip through video of the completed album. I plan on documenting the entire month, up to the 31st, since my family Christmas celebration will be on the 30th this year to accommodate everyone’s schedule.

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at my album. I’m really enjoying getting some thoughts and images documented every day, and I think I’m hooked. This might become a yearly thing!

The shop link above is an affiliate link, and the Good Cheer kit is still available, in case you still want to snag it for yourself. It really is beautiful! Thanks!
