My First Traveler's Notebook
I recently started my first traveler's notebook. I'd been intrigued by the traveler's notebook format for a while, and when I was asked to join the creative team for Kelly Purkey shop, the beautiful traveler's notebook kits gave me the kick I needed to try it out. I plan on using this notebook to document some of the more personal stories that might not necessarily make it into my pocket page album. I love that these notebooks are so small and compact, as I've been scrapbooking for almost two decades, and to say that storage is becoming an issue is an understatement!
The first spread I did features the Good Times stamp set.
I mean, I used the Focus on the Good stamp to remind myself of some of the good things that are going on in my life, because honestly, at the moment things are kind of hard. I chose a picture of spring flowers, because those always make me happy.
The journaling is a short list of things I can focus on when I feel down, including travel, time with family, and books. I used stickers and stamps from the Good Things kit and the 100% Fun Traveler's Notebook kit. I also used paper from the Rest & Relax Traveler's Notebook kit. It's a little hard to see in the image above, but I used a stamp from the Head in the Clouds set to stamp a subtle pattern on the page, to add a little texture. The stamp is meant to be rain, but I kind of love it as a pattern builder.
Sometimes it helps to stop and think about all the good things that are going on when you're feeling down.
The next spread I did was inspired by a sentiment that appears a few times in the Rest & Relax Traveler's Notebook kit, designed by Life Love Paper. The idea of learning to rest not to quit really hit home for me. I tend to get into things with an intensity that isn't sustainable, then burn out. That's where I'm at with my home yoga practice, so I did a layout about it.
On the left hand side of the page, I used a beautiful paper from the kit. Since I didn't want to cover up too much of it, I just added a small cluster of stickers, highlighting the phrase I wanted to journal about and the date.
On the right hand page, I used that rain stamp as a pattern builder again. I love the background it creates when used with a pale, pastel ink. Over that, I clustered some journaling boxes cut from one of the kit's papers, and some photos and stickers.
It's pretty simple, design-wise, but I love the way it turned out.
So that's my first foray into the traveler's notebook. I'm excited to see where this new format takes me.
